The role is responsible for ensuring that quality and yield expectations are achieved through precise oversight of the automated technologies that control all stages of plant growth, from seeding through to harvest.  Automated technologies in our greenhouse include robotic seeding, transplantation and spacing, nutrient delivery, irrigation, lighting, climate control, and crop monitoring.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work cross-functionally with all greenhouse production staff and become proficient in the operation and maintenance of seeding line equipment, germination room management, and the robotic equipment that spaces, transplants, and delivers plants to harvest.
  • Actively participate in crop inspection and data analysis, monitoring and managing plant health (pests/disease, size/weight, growth speed, etc.) throughout the lifecycle of the crop for different plant varietals.
  • Understand, control and operate components of the greenhouse climate and energy control system (example: ventilation, variable speed fans, adiabatic cooling, heating, CO2 source and distribution, energy and light mitigation screens, hybrid artificial lighting, etc.)
  • Understand, control and operate components of the irrigation system (ie: source, captured, sterilized, recirculated and waste water, etc.) and fertigation
  • Understand, maintain and operate the environmental PC control system

Key Attributes and Skills:

  • A collaborative team player who can solve problems and take ownership of core responsibilities, while encouraging staff at all levels and across all departments to learn and participate in our success
  • Outstanding technical and professional communication
  • Ability to create realistic plans and meet deadlines under stress and with interruptions
  • Flexibility – this is not a nine to five role.
  • Quick learning skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in horticulture or agriculture
  • At least seven years’ leadership or technical experience in greenhouse growing
  • Experience with complex horticultural equipment and technology in a commercial greenhouse or production environment

Passion, persistence, teamwork and a dash of prairie humility.

If you embody those values and want to hit the ground running in a fun, fast paced, dynamic environment and work for a company with a culture based on collaboration and innovation then you may be just what we are looking for!
